The Motional Hub in Mexican Universities

Mental health in university life is one of the most invisible topics. However, finding an adequate balance between the hours dedicated to study and emotional and social well-being represents a constant challenge for many students.

Motional Hub is being used to find out the emotional state of students in various Mexican universities such as: Benemérita Universidad de Puebla, Universidad de Coahuila and Universidad de Tepeaca. Using the well-being thermometer, we have drawn the well-being map of the universities:

  • Around 50% of students present moderate levels of anxiety and depression.
  • 22% show severe levels of anxiety and depression.
  • 14% face serious symptoms of both conditions.
Chart with the top 10 emotions of Universities.

This panorama underlines how academic pressure, stress and other factors deeply affect the mental health of students. Among those who present symptoms of anxiety and depression, emotions such as nervousness, sadness and disappointment predominate, reflecting the emotional impact that university life entails.

On the other hand, students who did not report symptoms of anxiety and depression showed high scores in emotions such as joy, approval and optimism. Among the most prominent emotions in this group were compassion, neutrality, admiration and desire.

Our Well-being Thermometer, Motional Hub's innovative tool, has been responsible for detecting these levels of well-being, offering universities an accurate way to monitor the mental health of their students.

In addition, as part of the project, Motional Hub has made available to students a series of resources to take care of their emotional well-being. The most popular resources include three specific tools to:

  • Design your own action plan to reduce the use of mobile devices.
  • Improve overall well-being.
  • Reduce the time spent on procrastination.

Around 20% of participants have used these tools, and 85% consider that they have provided significant improvements in their well-being.

This project has been possible thanks to the support of institutions such as FUNSALUD and CONAMEGE, in addition to the collaboration of universities such as BUAP, the Autonomous University of Querétaro, the Autonomous University of Coahuila, the Centro Superior de Tepeaca and the CESEEO University. Together, these universities have joined forces to promote the well-being and mental health of students.

If you are part of a university or educational institution, we invite you to join us. The well-being of students is the key to their academic and personal success.
